Icelandic Invasion of The Festival in Bratislava

The Festival Series brings together players from all over the globe, including Canada, the USA, Brazil, and as far south as Australia. Whether it is the availability of mixed games or the tournament atmosphere’s light-hearted nature, The Festival Series’s popularity grows with every stop.

One such group of players who have an increasingly noticeable good time is the Icelanders. They play nonstop and party nonstop. Do they even sleep? Are they as crazy at home as when they are raiding other countries?

For the past few years, whether at The Coolbet Open or The Festival Series events, the Icelandic contingent of players has been a colourful addition to the happenings. In true Viking heritage, they invade each stop in hordes. With their colourful laugh, language and view of life, with their tight interpersonal bonds coming from growing up on an island in the middle of the northern Atlantic, of course, they must know how to seize the day and enjoy life to the fullest – or is it just a travelling act?

For a long weekend, The Festival’s Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk will visit Iceland to discover the true Icelanders and partake in live and online qualifiers for The Festival in Bratislava in collaboration with the local Vikings and Coolbet. For some of the events, you need to be in or from Iceland; for some, you can participate regardless of whether you are from Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, or Norway.

This week, Martin will fly to Iceland, follow the action in an online tournament open to locals, travel the island’s southern shores, and meet great locals of all ages. On Saturday, October 12th, there is a celebration of poker in Reykavik with a satellite to The Festival in Bratislava. At least three packages are expected to be awarded to the local community as more Icelanders will join the Viking invasion of The Festival in Bratislava from the 18th to the 24th of November. Together with Coolbet, The Festival is launching Battle of Vikings, an online qualifying series open to players in Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Estonia. On Thursday, October 10th, and Thursday, October 17th, at 20:00 CET, players can register for The Festival Vikings event. Each tournament guarantees two €1600 packages to The Festival in Bratislava.
