Malta Poker Championships 2020 moves online, powered by Pokio
After the remarkable success of the Irish Poker Open Online, which saw the main event draw an astonishing 2,945 runners, and The Hendon Mob Championship pull in an extremely healthy 379 players, the Malta Poker Championships 2020 has become the latest high profile live event to move online amidst the global Coronavirus shutdown.
The Malta Poker Championships debuted in May 2019 supported by The Hendon Mob, with plans to become a regular fixture in the Malta springtime calendar, with showpiece final tables playing out at Club 22 on the top floor of the iconic Portomaso Tower, Malta’s tallest building.
Although the Covid-19 pandemic seemed to have put Malta Poker Championships 2020 on the back burner, the series will now be presented online by Pokio and will run from the 22nd to 27th May on the Pokio platform. The Main Event will feature a €150 buy, four starting days between the 22nd and 25th May, and a €30,000 Guarantee. On the final day, The Hendon Mob Championship will present the final event, a €50 buy in with a €10,000 Guarantee. Prior to the main event €1.50 step satellites will run daily, as well as daily €15 super satellites.
All tournaments will be rake-free as a gesture of support to all players affected by recent events, with no tournament fees charged by either the Malta Poker Championships nor Pokio.
There will also be a special ‘Dealer Relief’ tournament which will aim to raise funds for the dealers and poker staff on the Island of Malta, who like many around the world, are amongst hardest hit at the hands of the pandemic during the economic shut down. This event will feature a €10 donation per entry to this special initiative.
