Jeremy Becker Secures Career-Best Score With Poker Masters Victory

Jeremy Becker, who had everyone’s attention when he won many daily tournaments at the Wynn in 2023, is again in the news for a career-high win of $255,000. The Daniel Negreanu protege who defeated ‘Child of the Sim’ Lando Tice in the WSOP has had in-the-money finishes almost 500 times but none quite like this, as this is his first 6-figure win. 

Makes History

On September 12th, Becker won the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em Event #2 of PokerGO’s 2024 Poker Masters. His first prize at this event is over two times more than his previous record high of just under $80,000. With a total of 2,969.81 points, the GPI POY standings now have Becker sitting comfortably in 45th place. 

Worthy Competition

Becker’s victory was all the more noteworthy because of the quality of the opposition he had to dispatch. With a prize pool of $1 million to be split among the last surviving 15 of 100 entries, an eventful day one saw Chris Hunichen bow out at 14th place, Andrew Lichtenberger in 11th, Dan Smith in 10th, Event #1 champ Spencer Champlin placed ninth, five-time bracelet winner and WPT champion Nick Schulman finished 8th, and Dylan Linde, WSOP bracelet and WPT champion, finished 7th. 

An eventful day one gave way to day 2, with Becker in the driver’s seat and Daniel Sepiol, 2023 WPT World Champion and bracelet winner, on the hunt. The first player to hit the hurdle was Ren Lin, who checked out with $50,000 in 12th place after seeing his A-7 run into Sepiol’s pocket kings. 

One place better than his sixth-place outing in Event #1 was bracelet winner Nicolas Seward, who was outplayed by two-time bracelet winner Michael ‘Texas Mike’ Moncek but left the table with $65,000. Moncek’s next victim was Sepiol, whose luck had run out. He left the table in 4th place with $90,000, boosting his lifetime earnings to nearly $9 million. 

Sean Winter crashed out with Pocket Kings against Moncek’s straight, which saw Winter, a high-stakes tournament regular, leave the table with $115,000 in third place, growing his career earnings to nearly $32 million. 

Head’s Up Play: Becker Faces Moncek

Moncek initially led the way until a failed bluff and a series of double-ups gave Becker a sizable advantage. Not long after, Becker secured the win and busted Moncek in second place. Moncek now has an estimated $2,600,000 in live tournament earnings following his $165,000 win from the event as runner-up.
