The Hendon Mob Championship returns to the Irish Open
The Hendon Mob Championship (THMC) will help kick off the 2023 Irish Poker Open when the festival gets underway during the first week of April. It is the fifth edition of a THMC as part of the Irish Open but the first time a THMC event will see the new home of the Irish Open. The 2023 Irish Open runs from April 3-10 at the Royal Dublin Society in Ballsbridge.
This will be the third time The Hendon Mob and the Irish Poker Open have partnered to bring THMC to the live festival. In 2020 and 2021, the Irish Open was played online and both years featured an online THMC event.
Cards get in the air for The Hendon Mob Championship on April 4th at 4 pm. Entry for THMC is €250 with late reg open for the first eight 30-minute levels. Players begin with 15,000 chips. Anyone who makes the money earns a rare THMC flag and custom badge on their Hendon Mob profile. The eventual champion will also take home a custom THMC trophy.
History of The Hendon Mob Championship and Irish Poker Open
There have been four THMC champions crowned during the Irish Open over the last few years. Joseph Field (2019, €7,840, 238 runners), Sosia Jiang (2020 Online, $18,382, 379 runners), Philip Baker (2021 Online, €11,397, 233 runners), and Wahid Ashraf (2022, €10,825, 332 runners) all hold the title.
Notable players to acquire a THMC flag through the Irish Open include award-winning Podcast hosts David Lappin and Dara O’Kearney, Gavin O’Rourke, Morten Mortensen, Charlie Godwin, Mohsin Charania, Kristen Foxen, and 2022 WSOP Main Event champion, Espen Jorstad.
There are some records up for grabs as well. The current lead of THMC all-time cashes sits at three with a large number of players on two. It would be a tall order but THMC’s all-time money list can be hunted down. Norbert Baumgartner is the current leader at $47,163.
